German compound words game: what is a hand shoe?
German builds new words by sticking old ones together. A hand shoe is a glove and a lazy animal is a sloth. Can you guess the rest?
What is it?
the glove
the sloth
the fridge
the tortoise
the light bulb
the skunk
the vacuum cleaner
the slug
German joins nouns together to make new ones, and the last part always gives the word its gender: der Handschuh because of der Schuh.
Once you know the parts, many long words explain themselves. That makes compounds one of the most fun ways to grow your German vocabulary.
