About the level test

How the test works

The test starts with a question around intermediate level. When you answer correctly, the next question is harder; when you miss one, it is easier. After 20 questions it has found the point where your answers stop being reliable, and that is your estimated level.

What it measures

Questions cover grammar and vocabulary in context and the reading of short texts, from notices and messages at beginner level to articles and opinion pieces at advanced level. Your result shows how you did in each of the three skills and the topics where you lost points.

The CEFR levels

Levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, used by schools, universities and employers across Europe and beyond: A1 and A2 for basic users, B1 and B2 for independent users, and C1 and C2 for proficient users.
